I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee about 25 miles northwest of The Great Smoky Mountains. Those mountains are my home, and have played a major role in my love for adventure and the outdoors. I spent much of my time in a small town called Townsend, Tennessee growing up. Nestled in the hills of the Smokies, this town was a favorite day trip destination for my grandparents to take my brother and I. It is also home to Camp Ba-Yo-Ca, the summer camp I spent 14 straight summers at, eleven as a camper and three as a staff member. There I learned how to canoe, shoot bow & arrow, build fires and shelters, identify trees and plants, and many more useful outdoors skills. These experiences were the origin of my thirst for adventure.
I have been around Photography all my life. Capturing special moments is something my entire family is passionate about. I have loved taking pictures of nature since the early years at camp. I would bring home two disposable cameras at the end of the week full of pictures of the hiking trails, lake, trees, bugs, and whatever else I saw that peaked my interest. I didn't know it then, but that was the beginning of my love for photography.
Travel is something I've been blessed to do quite frequently since I was a child. My grandparents are avid travelers and have been gracious enough to take me along on some incredible trips to places like Alaska, The Bahamas, and Europe. I fell in love with road trips as a young kid driving to Disney World. I've since driven coast to coast and border to border, and it is still my favorite way to travel. Check out my portfolio of Iphone shots collected from over two years of traveling at dylanmlara.vsco.com.
Combining these three passions is what drove me to create this site in order to share my travels and adventures and hopefully inspire a few others to get out there and experience it themselves. Adventure is out there, go find it!
